As I walked down the West Philly streets today, every time a I saw a crocuses my heart would just break a little bit! I couldn’t help but squeal and shake my head in wonder.

Playfully I said to my friend and the crocuses, “Look at your dark purple, the color of the mind in deep contemplation, a lot like winter — and then you open up and say, ‘hey yow-zar I am here and orange! Watch me take action! Hollar at sunlight taking on the majority!”

Okay so I was possibly projecting my experience of winter and early spring on to the outburst of the flowers. I mostly just felt an excited solidarity.

On this day of equal light to dark, I am feeling the intense call of light: the action, the yang! Saying Let’s Go!

Yet there is tenderness, like it’s the brave ones that go first, the small scouts preparing to report back to others — it’s safe, come on — It is Bloom time.
