Permission to Feel – #14 of 50 Things That Help Me Heal (video)

Allowing myself to feel WHATEVER it is that I am feeling is REALLY HELPFUL. Key even.
By resisting or trying to change my feelings instead of experiencing them, only drags it out longer and often pushes them deeper in the body so that I am then processing my emotions on a dense physical layer.
Feelings will pass. Whether those feels are ecstasy and giddiness or sadness and fatigue. If we surrender into our experience, they will pass.
So often we are told to avoid and not to give into “bad” or “negative” feelings such as grief, anger, rage, sadness, and hatred, which includes self hate.
I’ve found that even self hate is just a feeling. When I admit that that is what I am feeling, I can allow myself the compassion and acceptance I would want to offer to another person and the feeling passes through.
Feeling a feeling is not the same as dwelling in the story.
Feelings are body based, so if you’re not sure if you’re feeding into the “drama” or story:
Breathe, stand up, and move your body, or sit still and feel what’s happening. Try movement if stillness is swirling, sit down if movement is distracting. Probably whichever one is a little more uncomfortable is probably the one that is connecting you to the feelings you are resisting. Give yourself explicit permission to explore.
A feeling is just a feeling. And when I feel joy, love, hate, anger, or exhaustion with compassion, my life is compassionate! SWEET.
