We only we have one relationship. All other relationships are reflections or echoes of the relationship you have with yourself.
So if you want to change the way you relate to anyone or anything, you need to change the way you relate to yourself. That’s the deal. That’s the whole deal.
An example: When I get upset I feel inclined to get aggressive and hurtful to another person, even though what I want is to speak honestly and compassionately. If I don’t know how to speak honestly and compassionately to myself when I have betrayed my own self knowing, it is almost ludicrous to think I could muster that capacity for an interaction outside of myself.
A place I see that outside of myself is when I see someone talking really judgmentally or harshly to someone else. I think, “Wow, if that’s what we are hearing on the outside, just image what the voice inside their head it saying!” We often actually express ourselves in nicer and kinder ways externally then we do internally.
So if you want bring compassion, empathy, kindness, love, and honesty into the relationships you have outside of you, start with the relationship you have with yourself.
What’s the only relationship you CAN change that will change all your other relationships? Who has two thumbs and is alive? This GUY!
