My Favorite Prayer is a 4-Letter Word – #11 of 50 Things That Help Me Heal (video)

My favorite prayer is a 4-letter word.

My favorite prayer is h-e-l-p.

No great ritual, no great ceremony, no great incantation. Just the honest and raw surrender to receive help.

The thing that most often gets in the way of our “prayers being answered” is that we are so stubbornly focussed on asking for something that we don’t do the part where we surrender and let go, allowing ourselves to be taken care of. That is why I love this prayer.

It’s vulnerable, it’s brave, and it’s powerful. No story, just “Help!”

When we are so broken and faithless and yet open for anything that might ease our struggle, this prayer is all you need to find yourself somewhere new.

I remember lying in bed one morning, unable to get up. I was so heavy and could barely lift a limb. Finally I mustered a defeated “help.” Ten minutes later I was aware that I was standing and getting dressed, and that was a miracle that day.

Defeat can be the opening pathway to transformation because all of the things that kind of work, stop working. That is a good time for the no frills “Help” prayer.

Blessings and love to you.
